Eliza Jane Blackie
Biographical Information: ELIZA JANE BLACKIE, born c.1830 in Edinburgh, Scotland, died after October 1870. Living (1851) aged 21 and unmarried with her grandmother Mary Brown Purvis (Polly), widow of Burridge Purvis (see 1.1.3.7. above), at 5 Malta Terrace, Edinburgh. Living at the time of her marriage (1853) at 5 Alva Street, Edinburgh. She is designated (May 1867) as Eliza Young “of full age” and resident in Edinburgh, when Thomas Purvis Bruce (see 1.1.3.1.1.6. above) petitioned for final settlement of the estate of her uncle John Purvis (see 1.1.3.7.2. above) and is further cited (October 1870) as Eliza Jane (Blackie) Young when this case finally came to judgement. Married (3rd November 1853 by Revd Henry Wight of the Richmond Place Independent Chapel in St Cuthberts Parish, Edinburgh) Archibald Young, merchant, of 60 George Square, Edinburgh, son of William Young M.D. (born c.1798 at Kinross, Kinrossshire, Scotland), physician in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and of Margaret Young (born c.1795 in Hazeldean, Peebleshire, Scotland), both of whom were living (April 1861) at 60 George Square but no longer in 1871, having at least two sons and ? one daughter:-
