Biographical Information: ELIZA PURVIS, born c.1805, died before April 1850. Was present, as yet unmarried, at the wedding (29th January 1822 at Burntisland, Fife, Scotland) of William Thomson and Janet or Jessie Campbell (see OA.1132 – 1.15.3.), sister of Isabella Campbell (wife of Alexander Purvis (see 1.1.3.6. above)). Living (1824) on Pilrig Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, at the time of her marriage. Is mentioned as "deceased, formerly of Edinburgh, Scotland" in the will of her brother John Purvis (see 1.1.3.7.2. above) signed 4th April 1850. Married (13th June 1824 in St Cuthberts Parish Church, Edinburgh) Robert Blackie (died before October 1853), S.S.C., Writer to the Signet (solicitor), of 16 Hart Street, Edinburgh, having four children:- [Note: On 31st March 1851 the three daughters of Robert Blackie and Eliza Purvis were living with her mother Mary Brown Purvis (Polly), widow of Burridge Purvis (see 1.1.3.7. above), at 5 Malta Terrace, Edinburgh, so probably both Eliza and Robert had already died by then. In a letter of 13th May 1848, John Purvis of Kinaldy (see 1.1.3.6.1. above) mentions paying for the education of "Mrs Blackie's children", which could refer to the children of Eliza Purvis or Blackie (see 1.1.3.7.4. above) (who would have been aged 17 to 23) or, perhaps more likely, to the children of Ann I. Purvis or Blackie (see 1.1.3.7.5. below) (who would have been aged 5 to 18) and whose husband had died before 1851. In March 1866 the surviving nieces, nephews and their descendants (i.e. heirs) of John Purvis (see 1.1.3.7.2. above) petitioned the court in Warren County, Mississippi, against the executor Thomas Purvis Bruce (see 1.1.3.1.1.6. above) of John Purvis' will.
