Burridge Purvis
Biographical Information: BURRIDGE PURVIS, born c.1803, baptised 17th December 1808 in Kirkcaldy Parish, Fife, Scotland, died 1st September 1837 at Yazoo, Mississippi. He was designated "of South Carolina" when signing mortgage notes on land purchases in Warren County, Mississippi, in May 1834. He started purchasing land in Warren County in 1832, some of it from his cousin Robert Purvis (see 1.1.3.5.4. above) of Mobile, Alabama, and from this built up Oakland Plantation, near Vicksburg, Mississippi, which he left to his brother John Purvis (see 1.1.3.7.2. below) along with the slaves thereon and his interest in Glassmount, Kinghorn, Fife, Scotland. He also bequeathed £100 sterling to each of the children of his sisters Eliza, Ann and Mary. (See Warren County, Will Book l:112-113 copy April 1841 of will signed 17th May 1836 at Mobile, probated 18th October 1837 at Mobile). Unmarried.
