Robert Walter (robin) Purvis
Biographical Information: ROBERT WALTER PURVIS (ROBIN) of Gilmerton, St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, born 21st April 1869 at Kinaldy, Cameron Parish, near St Andrews, died 1st March 1957 in a nursing home at Elie, Fife, buried in Dunino Churchyard, Dunino, near St Andrews. Captain Reserve of Officers, 4th Queens Own Hussars, served with the 6th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in the South African War (1900), wounded in action at Nooitgedacht, Honorary Major 3rd Battalion Gordon Highlanders. Participated, with his brother William Herbert Purvis (see 1.1.3.6.1.5. above), in the sugar plantation at Kukuihaele, Hawaii, Hawaiian Islands (Hawaii), arriving (18th February 1889) at Honolulu Oahu, Hawaiian Islands (Hawaii) on the "Alameda", living at Kukuihaele 1889-90 and departing (3rd May 1890) on the "Zealandia". Purchased (February 1900) for £9,000 the estates of Gilmerton and Brigton, near St Andrews, and which adjoin Kinaldy to the North. Married (officially on 13th December 1904 at Morningside Church, Edinburgh, Scotland, but having already secretly married in Edinburgh in November 1904) Henrietta Walton Gilmour (Netta) (born 8th April 1884 at Montrave, Leven, Fife, died 1st December 1962 in The Memorial Cottage Hospital, St Andrews, buried in Dunino Churchyard, Dunino) (see OA.750 – 1.3.2.2.3.), who inherited, from her brother Harry Gilmour (died 23rd December 1925) (see OA.750 – 1.3.2.2.4.), the estate of Denbrae, Logie, Cupar, Fife, which she sold c.192?, second daughter of Sir John Gilmour Bt (born 24th July 1845 at South Walton, Renfrewshire, Scotland, married 1873 in Canada, died 20th July 1920 at Montrave, Leven, Fife) (see OA. 750 – 1.3.2.2.), 1st Baronet (1897), of Lundin and Montrave, and Lady Henrietta Gilmour (born 12th March 1852 at Quebec City, Province of Quebec, Canada, died 2nd January 1926 at Denbrae, Logie) (see OA.750 – 1.3.5.2.) (her husband's 1st cousin and 2nd daughter of David Gilmour (born 20th August 1815, died 1856) (see OA.750 – 1.3.5.) of Quebec, Province of Quebec) (see the 1500 negatives of family photographs taken by her (1890-1912) and deposited (1978) in the library of St Andrews University, St Andrews), having three children:-
