Biographical Information: JOHN RALPH PURVIS, born 2nd January 1894 at Hampton Court, Middlesex, England, christened 8th March 1894 by Rev. Arthur Ingram in the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, Hampton Court, killed 25th September 1915 at the Battle of Bellewaerde Ridge, near Ypres (Ieper), Belgium. Commemorated on panel 46 of the Menin Gate at Ypres (Ieper), Belgium, having no known grave. His gold watch, given to him by his father on his 16th birthday, was found (c.1960) by a local farmer and is in his museum (c/o Marcel-Hugghe-Delen, Poczel-kock 5, 8680 Geluveld, Belgium). Commoner of Trinity College, Oxford. Captain in The Rifle Brigade and commanding B Company of the 9th Battalion (the same company his father subsequently commanded) when he was killed.
