James Bruce Adam

Biographical Information: JAMES BRUCE ADAM, born c.1851 in Edinburgh, Scotland, died 8th February 1928 (aged 77 years) at 1 Spylaw Road, Merchiston, Edinburgh. Paint and varnish manufacturer and merchant, becoming (1881) partner in the firm Craig & Rose and director (from 1900) of Craig & Rose Limited, Edinburgh. Living (8th April 1861 per census) as a scholar aged 10 with his parents at 25 East Claremont Street, Edinburgh, and also on 3rd April 1871 (per census) when designated as an unmarried commercial traveller and drysalter aged 20. Living (April 1889) in Leith, Edinburgh, and designated "merchant", when named as a trustee of a trust set up by Thomas Purvis Bruce (see 1.1.3.1.1.6. below) under his will. Living (11th November 1891) at 42 Drummond Place, Edinburgh, when witness at his father's death, on 14th July 1893 when witness at the death of his aunt Eliza Russell Bruce (see 1.1.3.1.1.5. below) and in 1898 (per Post Office Directory), and living (5th February 1903) at Ettrick Tower, 1 Spylaw Road, Merchiston, Edinburgh, when witness at his mother's death, also in 1912 (per Post Office Directory) and at time of death (1928). His engagement is mentioned in a letter dated 2nd January 1892 from Florence Forsyth Purvis (see 1.1.3.5.2.1.8. below) to her sister, his 3rd cousins. Married (23rd April 1892 in London) Florence Bourner (born c.1856, died 17th August 1935 at 1 Spylaw Road, Merchiston, Edinburgh, aged 79) of Brighton, Sussex, England, daughter of James Bourner and Harriet Hillman, having at least one son:-
